Obituary of John Robert McDaniel, Jr.
AVERILL PARK –
John Robert McDaniel Jr. (Mac), age 72, passed away at his home in Averill Park, NY, on Sunday, March 23, 2025, after a long illness. He was born on August 7, 1952, in San Diego, CA.
John graduated from Christian Brothers Academy in Albany and went on to serve in the U.S. Army for over nine years. He was deeply proud of his Irish heritage and embraced life with an easygoing nature. Known for his wisdom and kindness, he often shared his favorite saying: "It's nice to be nice!"
John, a full-fledged Buffalo Bills fan, had a passion for crossword puzzles and a thrill for riding motorcycles. He was also the founder of the Outdoor Wildlife Supporters (O.W.L.S.), reflecting his love for nature and conservation.
He is survived by his wife, Susan; his children, Christopher (Amber), Zachery, Gabrielle (Bryan), Alexander (Caitlyn), Raymond (Heidi), Russell, Amanda (Wayne), and Daniel (Mary); as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, including Grayson. He is also survived by his siblings, Bryan Waterbury, Peggy Waterbury, Keven, Sean, and Bryson McDaniel; along with many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was predeceased by his son, Matthew McDaniel (Fiona), and his parents, Marianne Ward and John R. McDaniel Sr.
Relatives and Friends are invited to attend a Committal Ceremony with Military Honors, to be held on Tuesday, April 1, 2025 at 2:30PM in the Gerald B.H. Solomon ~ Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville, NY 12871. Those wishing to attend should join the funeral cortège no later than 2:15PM at the cemetery gate.
John's warmth and wisdom touched many lives, and he will be dearly missed. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him. Thank you to his health care teams, he truly appreciated and loved you all.
