Obituary of Paula Thompson
ALBANY –
Paula Thompson, 73, formerly of Waverly, NY passed away unexpectedly February 22, 2025, at her residence in Albany, NY.
Born in Waverly, NY on August 1, 1951. She was the daughter of the late Kenneth and Florence Thompson.
Paula was a 1969 graduate of Waverly Jr-Sr High School, a 1971 graduate of Corning Community College and a 1973 graduate of the State University of New York (SUNY) at Oswego where she earned a BA in Education. She later attended and graduated with a Masters in Secondary Education from Penn State University. After graduation from SUNY Oswego, she taught first for the Athens School district and then she moved to Geneva and taught for the Geneva School district. In the 1980's Paula left teaching and joined the Electronic Data Systems (EDS) Corporation where she worked as an organizational consultant in several large corporate transformations and mergers in various geographic locations including Dallas, Texas and Detroit, Michigan. She was a member of the team that worked to integrate EDS with General Motors Corporation in Detroit. In the 1990's she moved back to New York State and settled in Albany where she served as the Operations Director for several large corporations, including Lockheed Martin, serving the New York State government. Her last position was at Affiliated Computer Services where she retired in 2011.
Paula grew up in a home directly across from the American Legion in Waverly where she was very active in Legion events. Her father was a WWII veteran and Post Commander for a number of years. She had many Waverly friends that she grew up with and never missed a class reunion or other special event.
Paula was a trailblazer for her extended family including several cousins and nephews and nieces who often followed her formula for success in life. She had a certain zest for life and enjoyed exploring new places and the next adventure. She loved organizing and attending family gatherings and never missed an opportunity to celebrate a holiday or birthday with friends. As a Penn State alumnus, she was a lifelong fan(atic) of the Nittany Lions - especially football.
Paula is survived by her brother, and only sibling, Robert Thompson of Oxford, NY. She is also survived by her niece and nephews Shawn Thompson of Albany, NY His daughter Angeline Thompson, Chantel Thomas(Bob Davidson) of Oxford, NY her children Ally, CJ ,Maddie, and Hannah. Michael Thompson of Utica, NY, She is also survived by many cousins and special friends including her cat Jakie.
A memorial service as a celebration of life in remembrance of the time we were able to spend with Paula will be held Saturday April 26, 2025 at 1pm at the New Covenant Presbyterian Church, 916 Western Avenue, Albany NY 12203. Her remains will be interred with her mother at Tioga Point Cemetery in Athens, PA at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to your favorite charity.
