Obituary of Carole Louise (née Arthur) Sanchez

CATSKILL –

Carole Louise (née Arthur) Sanchez, 92, of Catskill, formerly of Albany, passed away peacefully on December 18, 2024  in the comfort of her Catskill home where she always wanted to be, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on February 18, 1932 in Albany, NY. Daughter of the late Harold and Mildred Arthur. Carole was raised and educated in the Capital District and has resided in Albany, Slingerlands, Troy and Catskill, NY. She was raised in faith as a Jehovah's Witness and always held her faith and firm conviction in her beliefs.

In her early life she worked as a cashier in a Five and Dime in Albany, she was a telephone operator, and a secretary for the New York State Police. Later in life, she started a career to support her family as a diet aide at the Eden Park Nursing Home in Catskill, NY. There she cared for many, as well and made strong friendships that followed her in life. But her ability to work and provide for her children was her greatest life accomplishment (and what she was most proud of.) That and her beautiful family home and property.

Carole was an incredible artist. She was self-taught and had talent that most could only dream of possessing. Her oil paintings are breathtaking and speak to her ability to capture beauty and inspire emotions. In the 1960s and 1970s, she painted many pieces, even with small children at her knee- she just loved to paint. She loved Olana and some of her paintings are of the heart shaped lake there. We'd love to see everyone at the Olana bench dedication/memorial service for Carole to be held in the Fall 2025 (see service details below).

Carole dedicated a good part of her life to taking care of others. She not only maintained her big family home in Catskill NY from the time it was finished in 1970 until her death, but also offered it to help family members by letting them live there, helping support them and to help raise their children. If someone needed storage space or anything she had, the answer was always yes. Anyone who met her knew she was endlessly generous and kind. She also loved to cook and was a “foodie” before that was even a word, making the best family dinners and baking special desserts regularly. Potato soup at Christmas, paella for birthdays, crabmeat croquettes for New Year’s Eve. She made everything special and always made people feel loved.

A kind and generous heart, a peaceful and beautiful spirit, Carole was a gift to this world and a treasure to all who knew her. She will be missed dearly by her family and all who knew and loved her. Forever loved, never forgotten.
