Obituary of Ronald James Cromer

SCHENECTADY –

Ronald James “Ronnie” Cromer was born on October 5, 1948 in Schenectady, New York and departed this life on November 22, 2024 at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, New York at the age of 76.

Ronnie grew up in a busy family of six children in the Bellevue neighborhood of Schenectady. Among the things he loved were animals, in particular his buddy, Snowball. He also loved spending time at the family camp in the Adirondacks. Although he was a quiet kid, he showed a sharp wit and sense of humor early on. Ronnie graduated from Mont Pleasant High School and earned his Bachelor of Science degree from SUNY Albany. He also took classes at several different colleges around New York State and Alaska, depending on where he was stationed. He loved taking classes in the fine arts.

Ronnie’s sense of humor carried him through his later years when he joined the Air Force and served for 8 years.  One of the places he was stationed in was Alaska, a place that meant a lot to him and where he made many life-long friends. After being discharged, Ronnie worked as a contract specialist at the Watervliet Arsenal. During this time he developed a love of gardening and he practiced his art as a gifted painter. Ron was active in his church where he served as program administrator for their home furnishings department. After retirement, he became an event coordinator for LAZ Parking to fill his time when he wasn’t caring for his other dog, Toby.

Ronnie is survived by his siblings, George (Lois), Donald (Susan), Allen (Debbie), Geraldine, and Danny (Betsy).  He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, and many long-time friends. He was predeceased by his parents, George and Lillian. Ron was a devoted son who cared for his parents until their deaths. Ronnie’s life was difficult during his later years when he suffered from renal disease. During this time, he was supported by his niece, Cindy, and his brother and sister-in-law (Donald and Susan).

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Ellis Hospital for their exceptional care and they are appreciative of the support of his pastor, Sara.  They would especially like to thank all those who provided dialysis care and kind attention to Ronnie during his struggle.
