Obituary of Sondra Cowart Lewis
SARATOGA SPRINGS –
Our beloved Mother and Gram, Sondra Cowart Lewis, passed away due to a brief illness on November 21, 2024 at the age of 79 in Saratoga Springs, New York.
Sondra was born on January 18, 1945 in Seville, Florida, a daughter of the late Herbert and Christine Cowart. Sondra was raised and educated in Florida, graduating from Taylor High School (class of 1963) in Pierson, Florida. She also attended Florida Southern College for one year, before relocating to Rupert, Vermont to start her family. She spent the later years of her life living close by her daughter in upstate NY.
Sondra was a dedicated mother who also worked as a bank teller and bookkeeper in her younger years.
She was a dedicated Christian, who was active with several local churches and was blessed with a musical gift. Sondra was a beautiful pianist and regularly played hymns on her keyboard at home.
Sondra was a beautiful person (inside and out), who over the years, volunteered for hospice, helped to stock pantry items at Franklin Community Center and also served meals at the local soup kitchen. Sondra was a fantastic cook, with a specialty in Southern food.
She loved music, dancing and fashion. Known to all those who encountered her for her dazzling smile, patience and gentle nature. Sondra took great pride in her appearance and always looked her best. She was an avid shopper, who could be regularly spotted walking in downtown Saratoga Springs. Above all, she cherished her family and was always in the audience to support her granddaughter’s ballet & violin recitals. Sondra will be warmly remembered but sorely missed by all the lives she touched.
Loving mother to her children: Sallie Genevich (John), Joanne Watson (Gordon) and Kevin Lewis. Cherished Gram to her grandchildren: Alison Genevich, Molly Genevich, Brendan Brooks, Abigail Brooks, Isabel Lewis and great granddaughter, Chloe Barber.
Dearest sister to surviving siblings: Sharon Jackson (George) and Debora Reed (Marc).
In addition to her parents, Sondra was predeceased in death and now joins in the Kingdom of Heaven, her loved ones gone before her, a grandson, Quinn Barber, and a niece, Melissa Jackson.
Our family wishes to acknowledge with heartfelt gratitude, The Community Hospice of Saratoga County for their compassion and care to our mother and grandmother.
Relatives and Friends are invited to attend a memorial service for Sondra Cowart Lewis, commencing at 10 o’clock Saturday Morning on December 7, 2024 at the First Baptist Church of Saratoga, located at: 45 Washington Street, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866 (corner of Washington Street and Railroad Place). All are Welcomed.
