Obituary of Bonita Alyce (Dziedzic) Mason  Halstead

SARATOGA SPRINGS –

Bonita Alyce (Dziedzic) Mason Halstead, 83, of the Wesley Community in Saratoga Springs, passed away peacefully on Sunday evening, October 27, 2024.

Originally from Auburn, NY. Lived across New York, Arizona, and Rota Spain, Bonita was born on March 5, 1941 in Portsmouth, VA. She was a daughter of the late Louis P. and Alyce (Phinney) Dziedzic.

Bonita, or Bonnie, as she was known by family and friends, spent most of her formative years in Auburn, NY at the Dziedzic family home of 112 Hoopes Avenue. She received her education in Auburn from St. Alphonsus Elementary School and Mt. Carmel High School where she was a member of the cheerleading squad.

As an adult, Bonnie worked for various employers during her lifetime, most often in the secretarial field. She had the unique privilege to travel all over the world, across the United States, Europe, and Japan.

Bonnie, affectionately known by some family members as “Aunt BonBon” or “Bonzai”, was quietly artistic, a prolific writer, and avid reader. One would just happen to see her creations or read her compositions and be fascinated by the talents that she kept silent about. She was also remembered for her grand entrances at family and community events, often decked out in a wide brimmed sun chapeau or carefully placed beret. She enjoyed those events to the max and loved a good ol' belly laugh.

In later years, Bonnie was also known for "telling it like it is," fearless of the reaction. She proudly and lovingly embraced being the matriarch of her 9 brothers and sisters. Some of her favorite things to do were reading, drawing, painting, talking on the phone with her children, face timing with her beloved granddaughter, Sophie, and spending time with her dear and perfectly matched friend, Gunta, hunting for that ceramic green frog!

She was the loving mother of Mathew (Shellie) Halstead and  Jennifer Halstead (Ryan Cannon). Cherished grandmother of Sophie Halstead, whom she adored and treasured.

And dear sister to: Kathy (Don), Mark (Lynne), Peter (Jackie), Susan, Paul, MaryBeth (Michael), John (Rose), James (Joan) and Amy.

In addition to her parents, Bonita was predeceased by her husband, Robert Mason, and her niece Margaret Langston.

Heartfelt acknowledgement and gratitude to: Donna, Lawrence and the Wesley Community, Wesley Healthcare and Rehabilitation Facility staff, as well as Saratoga Hospital, Beverly, Debbie and especially her loyal friend, Gunta Voutyras, Nancy Miller, and all those that cared for and loved having her in their lives. Our entire family thanks you.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Bonita’s celebration of life from 3-5PM on Saturday, November 2, 2024 at the Wesley Community Café, 122 Lawrence Street, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866. Interment will take place in the Spring of 2025.
