Obituary of William F. Stevens

HALFMOON –
 
Mr. William F. Stevens, 80, of Halfmoon, formerly of Albany, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 24, 2024 at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady.
 
He was born on May 11, 1944 in Albany, a son of the late Edward and Grace (McCarg) Stevens. William was raised in Albany and has since resided in Bethlehem and lastly, Clifton Park.
 
He received his education from the College of St. Rose in Albany, obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree. Mr. Stevens is a Veteran of the United States Navy, having served faithfully from 1962 until 1966 and received an honorable discharge for his service. He was employed by the City of Albany as a Police Officer with the rank of Sergeant and also was employed for a time by the County of Albany in the Comptroller’s Office. William was a member of the Albany VFW and also, Bethlehem Sportsman Club.
 
He was instrumental in the establishing of the first men’s basketball team at the College of St. Rose, where he also participated in the sport itself. William enjoyed sports, he was an avid fan of both the New York Yankees and the New York Giants.
 
A true outdoors man, William enjoyed hunting and fishing, and also enjoyed playing golf. He appreciated the majestic beauty of horses and enjoyed summers at the Saratoga Race Track.
 
Above all, William cherished his family. A loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed spoiling his grandkids Wes and Wyatt, and having his canine companions by his side. Warmly remembered as always loving and kind with a sense of humor, he will be sorely missed.
 
Survivors include his devoted wife of 50 years, Dixie (Hess) Stevens, whom he married on May 11, 1974 in Gloversville. Loving father of Leigh Stevens (Jolene Johnston), cherished grandfather of Wesley William Johnston-Stevens and Wyatt Grace Johnston-Stevens. Dearest brother of Nancy Elia (Nick), Richard Stevens (Karen) and James Stevens (Nora).
 
In addition to his parents, William was predeceased by his brother, Edward Stevens (Rose Marie) and sister Sharyn Pallozzi (Tom).
 
A Private Committal Ceremony with Naval Funeral Honors for the immediate family will take place in the Gerald B.H. Solomon – Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, New York.
 
Relatives and Friends are invited to join the Stevens Family for a Celebration of Life reception on Friday, November 1, 2024 from 4-7PM at The Fairways of Halfmoon, 17 Johnson Road, Mechanicville, NY 12118.
