Kathleen E. “Kandy” Shannon, 66, of Clifton Park passed away peacefully on March 28, 2015 surrounded by her beloved family.
Kandy was born in Troy, NY, the second of ten children of the late John and Joan Shannon. She received her BS in Science and MS in Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Kandy remained deeply involved with RPI Athletics throughout her life, acting as RPI’s Assistant Athletic Director after graduating and was later inducted into the RPI Athletic Hall of Fame.
After retiring from Northrup Grumman she trained and mentored many local and national athletes. Kandy competed in multiple sports and was a world-class speed skater competing in the US National Championships and Olympic trials.
Kandy was a kind generous sister, aunt, and friend. She is predeceased by her loving nephew Joshua L. Smith and survived by 9 siblings and 32 nieces and nephews, many aunts, uncles and cousins.
A Memorial Mass will be held at Mater Christi Catholic Church, 40 Hopewell St., Albany on Wed., April 1, 2015 at 6:30 PM. Visitation will be held at the Church prior to the mass from 5:30 - 6:30 PM.
In lieu of flowers a memorial donation can be made to the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York, 965 Albany-Shaker Road, Latham, NY 12110
