Obituary of Christopher Edwards Merritt

SPRING HILL, FL –

Christopher Edwards Merritt, aged 41, passed away on June 26, 2024, in Clifton Park, New York. Chris burst into this world on November 9, 1982. It's hard to describe the person he was in just a few words. Chris was thoughtful, kind, fiercely competitive and absolutely hilarious. He was often the center of attention and for good reason, he could make people laugh without ever saying a word. He was cherished for his sharp wit and talent for verbally sparring with everyone he met.

Chris attended Southeast High School in Bradenton, Florida. He carried his love for pop culture and music throughout his life. You could often find him with his earbuds in and writing in a spiral notebook. An avid fan of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Florida State Seminoles, Chris was known for his extensive knowledge of sports stats and television ratings. He was always ready to share them -- whether or not you wanted to hear them. He was also the nosiest person his loved ones knew. There are few things he liked more than sitting outside, enjoying the night air, and having a good gossip session.

Above all, Chris was devoted to his children, Joseph and Dylan Merritt. His love for his sons was ever-present and always the centerpiece of his life. The boys and their mother, Christine Gleason, changed his life and he always made sure people knew that.

Chris is survived by his devoted and loving mother, Louann Lameau; sister, Angel Woods; life partner, Christine Gleason; and his sons, Joseph and Dylan Merritt. He was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Christopher Merritt, and his grandmother, Mary Lamb.

A private service will be held by Chris' family and friends to honor his memory and celebrate his life. Chris' presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him. They will remember his boisterous laugh, quick wit, the warmth he shared with the few people he adored -- and his smirk.
