Obituary of Michael Tropeano
SCHENECTADY –
We are deeply saddened to share that Michael (Mike) Tropeano, 72, recently of Schenectady, NY, passed away unexpectedly on May 20, 2024.
Born on August 29, 1951, in Queens, NY to Michael and Mary Tropeano (Peretta), Mike was a lifelong proud New Yorker and Italian. After graduating from Queens Vocational and Technical School, he found his love for all things electrical. He went on to have a career as a lineman and high voltage electrician for Long Island Lighting Company and Drummond Aerospace, as well as an independent electrical and plumbing contractor. He had the thrilling tales and scars to show for it, which he shared proudly.
He was a storyteller, a sports lover (let’s go Yankees), a perpetual handyman, and terrific cook. He was happiest when he was using his hands and sharing his labor, and he will be remembered above all for his laugh and humor, which came easy and often.
He leaves behind his cherished wife, Mary Karen (Gleason), son Michael and his wife Christine (Horrigan) of Medford, NY, grandchildren Gabriella and Aidan, and a daughter. Additionally, Mary Karen’s children: Christina and Anthony Gleason, and an extended circle of their friends and family who will miss his kind and generous spirit. He is predeceased by his parents and by his sisters: Jeanette Tropeano and Gilda (Jill) Squillaro.
Cremation has taken place through the care of Simple Choices, Inc.
A memorial service will be planned.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, whose work Mike admired and supported.
