Obituary of Jerome F. Skrandel, Jr.
BALLSTON SPA –
Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend Jerry Skrandel, of Ballston Spa, NY passed peacefully on Monday, May 13, 2024, surrounded by family and friends, to be with our Lord and Savior after a courageous fight with cancer.
Jerry was born in December 1963 to Patricia and Jerome Skrandel in Chicago, Illinois. He spent many years living and working in Florida, before moving to upstate New York to raise his family. In 2000, Jerry began a life with Debbie Skrandel in Ballston Spa, New York. The couple enjoyed many years together, especially when traveling, camping, boating, diving, and fishing with friends and family.
Jerry’s caring spirit and generous heart could be felt by anyone he met. He had a special gift of seeing the good and bringing out the best in people. Jerry was an avid lover of the outdoors and spent much of his time in the mountains or on the water, enjoying their serene beauty. Observing Jerry in nature was something to behold. His love for the outdoors brought out the happy free spirit that defined him. He gave freely of his talents by teaching many young campers how to fish and rewarding them with a fishing pole. In the summer you could always find Jerry on the dock at Sunset Bay on Sacandaga Lake. He was the unofficial dock master, always securing boats and lending a helping hand. He was also that guy who would dive to find the cell phone, keys, or glasses you dropped in the lake.
Jerry’s love for the outdoors and music were only surpassed by the love he had for his wife and family. His relationship with Debbie was like no other. They shared an unbreakable bond. Through good times and bad Jerry and Debbie lived, laughed, and loved deeply. His quality time with his family and friends will be forever cherished.
Jerry was also a tireless worker and contributor; for the past 27 years he worked for Crystal Rock, where he received many accolades for productivity and customer service. He was also selfless and always put others first. Jerry would always appreciate others, generously showing his gratitude to his coworkers, waitstaff, and many other people. He was fun loving, outgoing and vivacious, his jokes were endless - it was his greatest joy to make others laugh. He was an example to so many and a shining light to all who knew him. When you think of Jerry, celebrate the good memories you have of him. Remember that life is fragile and short and should be lived to the fullest. He will be missed more than any words could express but he will be forever in our hearts till we meet again.
Jerry is survived by his wife Deborah Skrandel, his brothers James Skrandel (Connie), John Skrandel (Sophia) and sister Loretta Schwab (Joseph), his sisters-in-law Terry Rook, Katie Fournier (Shawn,) and Erin Smith, his brother-in-law Dennis Smith (Angela), his sons Jerome F Skrandel III (Danielle) Christopher Skrandel (Kayleigh), Jason Skrandel, stepson Michael Greenwood, 4 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Patricia and Jerome.
