Obituary of Stephen F. Smith
Schoharie - Stephen F. Smith, 47 of State Route 30 died Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at Albany Medical Center after a sudden illness. Born in Detroit, MI, Stephen moved with his family to Schoharie from Washington, DC in 1970. He attended Schoharie Central School graduating in 1981. In 1983 he graduated from SUNY Canton with an Associates Degree. He was employed for the past twelve years as the Assistant Director of Environmental Health and Safety at SUNY Cobleskill.
Stephen was a wonderful father and family man. He loved helping people and was a friend to everyone. Outdoor activities such as boating, skiing and camping were among his favorite past times.
Stephen is survived by his wife Susanne Lansing Smith whom he married on July 1, 1995 in Schoharie; his parents, Rev. Robert D. Smith and Julia K. Sanderson Smith of Schoharie; two sons, Hayden D. and Harrison W. Smith both of Schoharie; siblings, David (Donna) Smith of Reading, PA, Mark Smith of Goodland, FL, Jonathan (Denise) Smith of Seward, NY and Amy (Peter) Finnerty of Elmira, NY. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Stephen's life will be observed on Saturday, September 19th at 10 am, at the Schoharie Reformed Church, Main St., Schoharie. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. The family would appreciate those in attendance to dress colorfully.
