Obituary of Arthur Edwin Wright

QUAKER STREET –

Arthur Edwin Wright, 94, of Quaker Street, NY passed away on September 2, 2023, at Ellis Hospital, Schenectady, NY after a short illness.  He was born on October 11, 1928 in Albany, NY to Raymond Nelson Wright and Wilma Willa Wright.

Arthur retired from Conrail in 1990, as a Railroad Track Maintenance Equipment Supervisor, after 14 years of service.  Prior to that, he worked for Kershaw Manufacturing (a manufacturer of track maintenance equipment) as a Regional Service Representative.  His most notable trip during his 7 years at Kershaw was to Israel, where he helped with the installation and operational training for the railroad maintenance equipment sold by Kershaw.  Arthur started his railroad vocation in 1964 with D & H Railroad as a mechanic for track maintenance equipment.  Prior to that he worked as a mechanic for various trucking and bus companies, and later as a bus driver, which led him to a 16-week tour with a ballet company. In his free time, Arthur enjoyed working in his garage, repairing various equipment and machinery, both for himself and for friends and family.  One project was the restoration of a Peterbilt tractor, which he subsequently used in his part-time trucking business that he started after retirement.Through his retirement years, Arthur stayed physically active and maintained his independence and mental acuity.  In 1995 he drove cross- country in his Winnebago when his first granddaughter was born in California. He kept up with technology, enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, and loved to watch old Westerns.

Arthur is survived by his son Douglas (Barbara) Wright of Galway; daughter Cheryl Wright Olsen of California; and five grandchildren:  Andrew and Adam Wright, Olivia, Carly and Schuyler Olsen.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Nora Wright, and son, Glen Wright of Mayfield, NY.
