Michael Loftus

Obituary of Michael Joseph Loftus

Guilderland - Michael J. Loftus passed away peacefully at home on June 20, 2013 after battling cancer for 15 months. Michael was born in Albany on September 1, 1958 to Harriet Gade Loftus and Charles M. Loftus. He grew up in Delmar and attended St. Thomas Catholic School, Christian Brothers Academy (class of 1976), and Buffalo State College. Michael worked for several years as a purchasing agent/manager, first at Blue Cross/Blue Shield, then at JLT Services. Prior to his illness, he had been employed for seven years by his brother-in-law and dear friend, Ron Ahl, at Main Core Supply in Waterford. Of all the things cancer stole from Michael, he missed going to work every day the most. Michael was the unofficial manager of the New York Yankees and often called plays ahead of the announcers. He looked forward to witnessing Mariano Rivera being inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. Michael is survived by his wife of 31 years Margaret J. (Maggie) Aumic of Guilderland; his sons, David M. Loftus of Myrtle Beach, SC; and Matthew W. Loftus of Guilderland; and his sister and brother-in-law Barbara and Ron Ahl of Clifton Park. Also survived by special niece Debbie Murray and her husband Dan, and their children Connor and Ana of Latham. Additional survivors include a niece, five nephews and several cousins. Michael was pre-deceased by his parents, Harriet Gade Loftus and Charles M. Loftus; and by his sisters Jean Harris, Judy Duffy and Carole Loftus.Michael's services are open to the public at All Saints Catholic Church, 16 Homestead St., Albany, NY 12203 (formerly, St. Margaret Mary's) on Wednesday, June 26, at 9am. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. The family wishes to thank Albany County Hospice, in particular RNs Shirley Street and Jennifer Carnibucci, and Deanne Busch, LMSW. Your kindness and support were invaluable. We will all miss Michael dearly and forever. May he rest in peace.
