Obituary of Walter L. Decker

EAST GREENBUSH – Walter L. Decker, 81, of East Greenbush, entered into rest on April 30, 2023, at Albany Medical Center Hospital, Albany, New York. The son of the late Lucian Decker and Rosemary (Cordell) Ryan, Walter was born on July 14, 1941, in Albany, New York. Mr. Decker was employed by CDTA as a supervisor. Walter, or Walt, as he was known to family and friends, loved to DJ at parties for family and friends and enjoyed going to the casinos, but especially his trips to Las Vegas. But most of all, Walt enjoyed spending time with family. He possessed a quality to always make everyone feel like family, he never met a person that didn't become an instant friend. Walt also held a vast knowledge of electronics and always made sure to keep up on the latest and greatest technology. His dry sense of humor always made us laugh. He will be dearly missed. Survivors include his beloved wife of 36 years, Patricia (Thornton) Decker, whom he married on March 7, 1987, in Albany. His Children and their spouses: Patricia (Michael) Bryant, Jeffrey (Marivic) Decker, Nancy (Michael) Smith and Karen (Victor) Figueroa. His grandchildren: Michael and Andrew Restrepo, Jaeden and Daniel Decker, Katelyn Parks, Kayla Gerasia, Michael Smith, Tyler and Nathan Figueroa. Walt is also survived by one great granddaughter, Averly Restrepo, two sisters: Debbie Ryan McMahon and Rosemary (Mark) Scully and several nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to his parents, Walt was predeceased in death by his stepfather Edward Ryan, and brother Ed Ryan. The Decker Family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the staff and nurses at Albany Medical Center, 5th floor Section D for their care and compassion to Walt in his final days. A special thank you to his sister-in-law Ruth Rose for being his “personal Uber” these last few months. Cremation has taken place through the care of Simple Choices, Inc. Prayers will be offered at 11 o’clock on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, in the Mausoleum at St. Agnes’ Cemetery, followed by inurnment. Please assemble at the gate of St. Agnes’ Cemetery, located at: 48 Cemetery Avenue, Menands, NY 12204 by 10:45AM to join the cortege and be escorted to the Mausoleum.
