Obituary of Sara Jean Grover

Sara Jean (Hawkins) Grover died peacefully on Saturday, September 17 at St. Peter's Hospice in Albany. Sara was born in 1934 in Oklahoma City to Lewis R. Hawkins and Rowena (Thorp) Hawkins. After attending the University of Oklahoma in Norman, she moved to the Albany area with her first husband, John C. Overbeck, in 1963. In 1977 she married Charles M. Grover, a businessman, who passed away in 2002 after 25 years of devoted marriage together. For many years Sara worked as a nurse at Albany Medical Center before moving on to home care. During this time she also became a Licensed Massage Therapist and a Reiki practitioner. Her spiritual foundation was evident in these careers, as well as in her words and many acts of kindness. Since Charlie passed away most of her time was devoted to prayer and meditation. Sara had a long and loving life devoted to God, and passed away peacefully surrounded by those who love her. She is survived by her son Dave Overbeck, daughter-in-law Lynne Dichter, and grandson Sam Overbeck, of Arlington, MA. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 24 at 11:00 AM at Grace Church, 20 Delatour Road, Watervliet. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Amnesty International.
