Obituary of Irving F. Welch

Ghent, NY Irving F. Welch, 99, of Ghent, passed away at home on Tuesday, November 10, 2015 surrounded by his loving family. Irving enlisted in the Army of the United States July 1938 serving three years. He was very proud to represent the United States Army at the 1939 World's Fair in New York City. He was called back to active duty January 1943 as a Tank Commander, Expert. He was honorably discharged July 1943. Irving was a lifetime member of the American Legion, Post 42. He was employed by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 1249 working in Electrical Construction until his retirement. Irving is survived by his wife of 73 years, Mabel (Stark) Welch and a brother George of Deleon Springs, Florida. He was predeceased by seven siblings. He is also survived by two daughters, Nancy (John) Phippen and Betty (Robert) Proniske, grandchildren Michael (Cheryl) Phippen, Barbara (Richard) Martelle and Taryn M. Phippen, great grandchildren Cassandra Quirino, Dominique Quirino, Calista Phippen, Cameron Phippen and several nieces and nephews. Irving was an avid hunter, fisherman, and horse racing fan. He loved his grandchildren and was involved in all they did. He was their "Gramp." Internment will be at the discretion of his family. Memorial contributions in memory of Irving may be made to the Columbia Greene Community Hospice, 47 Liberty Street, Catskill, NY 12414. Please express condolences to the family on this tribute.
