Obituary of Otto F. Hilbert, Jr.

Cohoes, NY- Otto F. Hilbert, Jr. (affectionately known as “Uncle Otto”) age 87, of Cohoes and formerly of Menands, passed peacefully on July 20, 2015 at the Eddy Village Green. He was predeceased by his wife, Alyce, his parents, Otto F. and Lillian (Gerdelmann) Hilbert, Sr., as well as his sisters: Evelyn Cote and Arlene Hilbert. He is survived by his cousins: Robert, Barbara and William Hancock, as well as his close friend, Judith Giuliano. Otto was born in Philadelphia, PA on December 27, 1927. He joined the US Navy in 1945 and served his country traveling extensively throughout the world, including an expedition to the South Pole in the Antarctic with admiral Richard Byrd. Upon his discharge, he was employed as a salesman for the Pennsylvania Lumbermens Mutual Insurance Company until his retirement. He and his wife resided happily in Menands, NY for many years. Otto was 32nd Degree Mason, recently receiving special recognition honoring him for his 60 years of service as a member of the Masonic order. At Otto’s request there will be no public service. Full military honors with a private entombment ceremony will take place at the Gerald B.H. Solomon - Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville New York. Thanks for the loving and caring staff of house 16 at the Eddy Village Green for all they did for Otto and especially for ensuring that he had his glass of wine every evening. A particular thanks goes out to Caroline, who gave him an appreciation of country music and “The Brendas”.

Services will be Private

At Otto’s request there will be no public service. Full military honors with a private entombment ceremony will take place at the Gerald B.H. Solomon - Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville New York.
