James Grimes

Obituary of James H. Grimes

James “Buddy” Grimes , 70, passed away in his home on Monday, June 23, 2014, after a yearlong battle with cancer. James was born on February 29, 1944 in Troy, NY to the late Hiram T. Grimes and Anna Ruth Robinson Grimes and spent his life living in the Capital Region. He was a wonderful, compassionate man with a great sense of honor and will be missed by all. James spent his early years attending Troy High School and LaSalle Institute in Troy before joining the United State Military in the 1960s. He was an employee of the State of New York and worked the polls for the Rensselaer County Board of Elections for many years. He also worked for the Tri-City ValleyCats later in life. James was a loving father, husband, brother and son. He enjoyed the simple things in life; playing ball with his sons, going to the movies, spending time with friends and family and so much more. It was not uncommon to walk down the street with James and constantly have to stop for him to chat with friends and family. That is the kind of man James was – he was a people person and a charmer. He loved life and all that surrounded him. James leaves behind a legacy of love and family including his wife of 30 years, his loving sisters, his children and grandchildren who he absolutely adored, nieces and nephews, cousins and more who will all carry on his wonderful name and carefree spirit. Arrangements are being made for a memorial service to take place early next week. The family is asking that in lieu of flowers, donations in James’ memory be made to: Sunnyside Center, PO Box 1410, Troy, NY 12181.
